Importance of Routine

Your routine is your route-in. We’ve grown up with routines yet we tend to be too harsh with them (and beat ourselves up when we don’t follow strict guidelines we have placed upon ourselves) or avoid them. If you are anything like me, I need routines to stay sane, on track, and productive. BUT I am extremely go with the flow and tend to shy away from practices that enhance my day to day life. It’s important to remember that you don’t need to have some elaborate morning routine where you meditate, journal, workout, do yoga, clean, don’t look at your phone, and drink green juice all before 9am. That is rediculous and not sustainable! It can be something as small as taking a moment of gratitude before you get out of bed and telling someone you love how much they mean to you. These things big or small bring you back to your true self, a moment of grounding to bring awareness to the present moment and you. Develop something that can genuinely and honestly be incorporated into your life, something that you look forward to everyday. For me this looks like affirmations and taking a few minutes of deep breathing. Although I strive to do more, I adapt and bring new ways to get back to myself each day depending on how much time I have. Routine is not about following something everyday and doing it just because your supposed to. It’s much more than doing the same bland thing everyday. It’s simply a reminder to rejoice back into your path and self.
